Os

Os - on set

“Os” (engl.: Togetherness) is a short movie specifically created for Cannes 2007. It is the story of a couple breaking up and re-uniting again. While breaking up, the man completely disappears leaving only behind his moving clothes. The whole short plays in a white undefined environment.

The post-production for this 11 minute short was exceptionally challenging, because the movie only contains three cuts. That meant for the visual effects team around Alexander and Monika Bress to deliver around 4 minutes of uncut pristine visual effects per shot, which would hold up to a critical audience on a big cinema screen.

The effects themselves included a lot of rotoscoping and hand painted masks, to remove certain rigs from the filmed material. Also the sequences where the man disappears and re-appears again involved a lot of manual work and recreation of a Brandy glass in 3D.

Overall the effects turned out excellent and the customer, Niccolo Donato, was extremely happy.
